Pine Bush School Board appoints hearing officer

The Pine Bush Central School District Board of Education appointed both an impartial hearing officer as well as special counsel at last Tuesday’s meeting.

Carl Wanderman of Montebello was appointed as an impartial hearing officer for a special education impartial hearing. Trustee Ross Thompkins initially approved the appointment, as he is the board designee for the appointment of impartial hearing officers. These hearings take place when parents do not agree with placement decisions from the Committee on Special Education. The district’s Acting Superintendent Donna Geidel could not reveal the name of the students and parents involved due to many privacy laws.

The board of education approved the appointment of McGivney, Kluger, Clark & Intoccia, PC as special counsel and authorized Geidel to sign the retainer. The firm was hired, as a former student made a claim of sexual abuse against the district. Geidel could not elaborate further on the matter due to confidentiality.
