One dead in Montgomery house fire

Michael O’Malley, 43, was killed in a structure fire in the Town of Montgomery on Father’s Day morning.


The Town of Montgomery Police responded to a structure fire at 282 Browns Road at 1:32 a.m. on June 16, according to Investigator Stephen Ragni.


Upon arrival, units observed the second floor was engulfed in flames. Police were advised a possible victim had entered the residence to possibly locate a pet dog. Coldenham Fire Department responded, and after extinguishing the fire, found O’Malley in a bedroom on the second floor.


O’Malley was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital by the Town of Montgomery Ambulance Corps, where he was pronounced dead.


Orange County Fire Investigators and the Westchester County Arson K9 are assisting the Town of Montgomery Police in the ongoing investigation.


Winona Lake, Vails Gate, Montgomery, Maybrook and Walden Fire Departments also responded, according to Orange County New York Fire Calls.
