Necessity of the Electoral College?

Posted

A recent letter to the editor of another newspaper decried the attempt to abolish the Electoral College because it prevents “the tyranny of the majority” and protects us from being “devoured by mob rule.”  Well, the Electoral College did not protect us from the Tyranny of the Tiny.  Fewer than 78,00 votes scattered over three states out of some 133,000,00 votes cast, that’s .059% of the vote, won the Electoral College for a spectacular business failure (who could say otherwise for up to 6 bankruptcies causing American banks not to loan to him thus putting him into debt to foreign banks and countries and failed ventures into an airline, vodka, mortgages, casinos, steaks, magazine, university, etc.) over, as many have said, the most suited candidate for president ever who had experience as a United States Senator and Secretary of State.  Mr. Trump’s one skill is a great gift of gab that promotes himself against all contrary evidence and tears other people down.  The “mob,” the great majority of Americans, have come to realize his inadequacies as President.
