Montgomery warehouse hearings adjourned

Posted

The public hearings regarding Medline and the proposed warehouse at 134 Neelytown Road have been continued to April 13 to allow for the town to make arrangements for public participation.

Due to the pandemic, the Town of Montgomery Planning Board took to Facebook on Monday to hold their regular meeting, and prohibited the public and applicants from attending the meeting in person. The only persons reported to be present were the planning board’s chairman, attorney and secretary, as well as the town supervisor and the videographer. Planning board members attended the meeting via conference call.

Planning Board Chairman Fred Reichle advised the public that the latest site plans, FEIS and other material regarding Medline are available on the town’s website. In addition, hard copies of the FEIS are available at town hall for those without computer access. Residents can contact the supervisor’s office at (845) 457-2600 to obtain a copy.

The period for FEIS public and agency consideration closes at 5 p.m. on April 2.

Meanwhile, Reichle said an engineering review was sent to the applicant for the warehouse proposed at 134 Neelytown Road and the applicant is in the process of working through engineering concerns as well as utilities, landscaping and lighting.

On April 13, the order of the public hearings will be reversed due to the large interest in the Medline proposal. The project at 134 Neelytown Road will be heard first at 7:30 p.m. and then followed by Medline at 7:40 p.m.

The procedure for these public hearings has not yet been determined. Reichle encouraged the public to visit the town’s Facebook page and website (www.townofmontgomery.com) for updates on how upcoming meetings will be handled and how they can participate in the public hearings on April 13.

Written comments regarding either project can be mailed to the planning board at 110 Bracken Road, Montgomery, NY 12549 or emailed to Planning Board Secretary Sue Hadden at: SHadden@townofmontgomery.com.

There will be no planning board workshop on April 1.

“We still have quite a few open-ended projects that we’re working through,” said Reichle.

Reichle explained that the planning board and its staff are working remotely and will do their best to process submissions and resubmissions, and provide reviews “in as timely a fashion as possible.”

“This is an unprecedented series of events that we are all trying to work through, so we just appreciate everybody’s patience and understanding in these difficult times,” said Reichle.

Reichle also thanked the town supervisor and his office for coming up with a system that helped the board move forward on Monday.
