The Village of Montgomery will host its first Rolling Thunder village event at its 20th annual salute to veterans picnic.

The Rolling Thunder ride will begin in Carmel, New York at the Gold Star Mother Monument in Putnam Park. Doug Finney, President of Rolling Thunder Chapter Three of New York, said the ride is designed to stop at veterans’ monuments throughout the area.

The ride will also stop at Fort Montgomery, the Harriman American Legion Hall, the Purple Heart Museum and finally at Veterans Memorial Park in Montgomery. Proceeds from the ride go to local veterans’ groups.

“Come out and join us and have a good time and help raise funds for our veterans,” Finney said. “They did their part and now it’s time for us to do ours.”

The salute to veterans picnic will be from 1 to 5 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, Bridge Street, Montgomery. The free, non-alcohol event includes food, games, prizes and live entertainment from Tony Martino and The Mustangs, All to Real and Jerry the Bulldog.

The Rolling Thunder ride beings at 8 a.m. To learn more, contact Finney at 762-8719.
