Announces contribution of $215,000 to town’s community response team

Last Wednesday, Town of Montgomery Industrial Development Agency Chairman Jeffrey Crist and Executive Director of The Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan Elizabeth Rowley, announced that the Town’s IDA has distributed $215,000 to the Town of Montgomery Community Response Team’s newly established Business Relief Program.

The Business Relief Program will also offer assistance to local businesses and family farms by providing a professional service through Nugent & Haeussler, P.C. at no cost, to help them identify and apply for federal, state, local and private funding.

Montgomery Town Supervisor Brian Maher is eager to get the new program off the ground.

“The Town IDA’s support of our newly established Business Relief Program will go a long way to assist our local businesses during this difficult time,” he said. “It is our goal for these funds to be used in the form of both grants and zero interest loans to assist businesses who need it the most.”

Rowley expressed her pleasure about working with officials from the Town of Montgomery during this trying time.

“Helping to create a bridge between the Town of Montgomery IDA and local businesses who are in desperate need of immediate financial assistance is something we are proud to be a part of,” she said. “This partnership is an example of how we can work together to provide creative solutions during this unprecedented pandemic.”

Crist spoke highly of the professional service the Response Team is providing to businesses through Nugent & Haeussler, P.C.

“As a business owner myself, I know that our local businesses have enough to worry about just staying afloat right now,” Crist said. “If we can give our businesses one less thing to worry about by providing a professional service, at no cost, to identify and guide them through the application process, then this program should go a long way.”

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus noted that the Town of Montgomery is a model for how local leaders should respond to a pandemic.

“I applaud the #TOMSTRONG Community Response Team, Town IDA and The Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan for collaborating on this program to support local businesses in the Town of Montgomery,” he said. “The creative action and leadership Montgomery is showing right now is a shining example of our local leaders working at their best to combat this crisis.”
