Incumbent Rory Holmes (R) won the special election for a Crawford town council on Nov. 6, beating out Charles Bazydlow (D).

Holmes won about 62 percent of the vote, according to Orange County Board of Elections unofficial election night results. 3,084 votes were cast.

Holmes was elected to former council member Rob Sassi’s seat in January when Sassi was elected to the county legislator. Bazydlow ran against Holmes in January and lost.

Holmes served as a member of Crawford’s planning board from 2010 to 2018 and as chairman of the Orange County Aviation Advisory Board. He also served on the Town of Crawford Master Planning Committee.

With a background in business, Holmes has served as ProAmpac’s comptroller and director of operations and is now the general manager. He was also a corporate comptroller for Brescia Lumber Company in Montgomery and McCollister’s United in Poughkeepsie.

Holmes said he wants to be fiscally responsible while helping run the town’s operations, similar to the way he runs his business.

Holmes also plans to support Pine Bush as it finds a new water source and work with the Crawford Police Department and local organizations to combat the opioid crisis.
