Howard R. Decker a retired Heavy Equipment operator for Local 825 in Newburgh, NY and lifelong resident of the area passed away at his home on Wednesday August 21, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was 84.

The son of the late Adrian Decker and Ida Boardman Decker, he was born on May 11, 1935 in Pine Bush. Howard made a career in the United States Military serving in the US Army from 1953 through 1955. He later served in the New York Air National Guard, retiring in 1996 at the rank of Master Sergeant. Howard was a life member of the VFW and an active parishioner at the Reformed Church of Shawangunk.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Carole at home, children; Kenneth Decker and his wife Debra of Pine Bush, Kellie Wentzel and her husband John of Pine Bush, Christopher Decker and his wife Denise of Pine Bush, and Adrienne Futrell and her husband Russell of Pine Bush, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Howard is further survived by many nieces and nephews and is predeceased by his brothers; Robert and John Decker.

The family would like to thank the VA for all their years of support. Special thank you goes to his caregivers, Karen and Judy for their loving care and to Hospice for their dedicated attention to Howard in his final days. 

Funeral services were held on Sunday August 25, at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc.,Pine Bush with Pastor Howard Dalton officiating. Cremation was held at Cedar Hill Crematory.  In lieu of flowers please make a donation to The Reformed Church of Shawangunk 1166 Hoagerburgh Road Wallkill, NY 12589 or Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court Newburgh NY 12550.
