Galaxy proposes Montgomery warehouse

Galaxy Limited presented plans for Galaxy Montgomery North—a proposed 240,000-square-foot warehouse between Baron and Bracken Road—to the Town of Montgomery Planning Board on Tuesday night.

The 33-acre parcel would include 240,000 square feet of warehouse space, 12,000 square feet of office space, 168 employee parking spaces and stormwater management facilities, according to planning board documents. About 9 acres of the site will be impervious surfaces.

The property is the northernmost property on the 754-acre Galaxy Limited Holdings site and the only parcel north of Interstate 84. The interstate marks the southern boundary of the site.

Ross Winglovitz, Principal Engineer with Engineering and Surveying Properties, P.C, said the site has space for 37 truck loading docks on the east side of the building, however the applicant is unsure if he will build the maximum docks available.

The building will sit on the western portion of the site, while the eastern portion will remain as federal wetlands.

Winglovtiz said the applicant has not identified an end user at this point.

Vehicular access to the site will be on the west side of the property through Bracken Road, Winglovitz said. The west side of the property will also have railroad access.

The project will potentially generate between 50 and 100 truck trips per day, according to the project’s Environmental Assessment Form. Once completed, operations may take place 24 hours, seven days a week.

Planning board member James Beaumont requested that trucks not be permitted to use the intersection of 17K and Bracken Road, as the intersection is currently difficult to use.

“We want you to send all your trucks the other way,” Beaumont said.

Winglovitz agreed to heed the planning board’s request.

Winglovitz said other than fire suppression, water will be provided by the site’s well, while sewer will require town hookups.

The project has no frontage on Bracken Road because the railroad property lies in between the site and the road, Winglovitz said.
