Ellenville defeats Chapel Field 3 - 0

Chapel Field knew they were in for a tough matchup when they agreed to play Ellenville, a bigger school, for their homecoming game. The non-league game was last Saturday and Ellenville won by a score of 3 - 0.

“We came out a little sluggish. It’s an abnormal Saturday game,” said Chapel Field coach Brad McQuiffie. “They’re a higher class, so we were overmatched a little bit.”

In the first half of the game, Ellenville dominated the offensive side of the ball, not allowing Chapel Field to get many scoring opportunities. For Ellenville, Alex Pauley scored their first goal, 15 minutes into the contest and Gavin Baxter their second at about 28 minutes in.

“Our defense takes a lot of pressure and our goalkeeper, Matt Hollow, really did a nice job, and our whole back defensive line, a lot of credit to them,” said McQuiffie. Hollow totaled 11 saves in the game.

A little over 3 minutes into the second half, Alex Pauley scored his second goal of the afternoon and the third for Ellenville. However, Chapel Field would start to get more aggressive, moving the ball up field and getting some more scoring opportunities.

“I was pleased with our guys second half. If we’re playing the way we normally play, I think it’s a little bit closer,” said McQuiffie. “They’re a better team than us, but we didn’t give our ‘A-game’ today, so it would’ve been nice to see that out of our guys.”
“In that second half I think they showed a lot of heart.”
