Sandy Magill, Chairperson of the Walden Community Council’s Home Decorating Contest 2020 sends thanks to all of the applicants who entered the contest. A great deal of hard work, labor and love was put into the holiday decorating.
Sandy sends special thanks to Debbie Robb and Sheila Smith for their help in judging the winners. Congratulations to the winners of the 2020 Home Decorating contest:
1st Place: Charlie and Darlene Munger, 222 East Main Street.
2nd Place: Kevin and Sharon Delmonico, 66 Sherman Avenue. Two 3rd place winners: John and Lynn Thompson, 34 Riverview Street and Marc and Laura Hamilton, 5 Overlook Terrace.

All winners are Walden residents.The winners received gift certificates from local Walden businesses.

Thanks to the Village of Walden Recreation & Parks Department village residents are looking forward to New Year’s Eve, Thursday, December 31. A free online concert with the Dan Brother Band will be live streaming on the Walden REC Facebook page from 7 p.m.-9 p.m.
Visit facebook.com/walden.recreation. Following the Concert there will be fireworks at 9:20 p.m. in James Olley Park for viewing from your home or viewing on live stream on Facebook. Do not go to James Olley Park.

With regard to the New York State Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative, the Village’s objective is to adopt a plan that is tailored to the needs of the Village that will promote the improvement of police agency and community relationships based upon trust, fairness, accountability and transparency and further seeks to reduce racial disparity in policing.

In order to further facilitate your input, the Village has scheduled open public forums to be held in the Bradley Assembly Room, on the third floor of the Village Hall, One Municipal Square, Walden, on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 6 p.m.;Monday, February 4, 2021 at 6 p.m. and Monday March 1, 2021 at 6 p.m.
If in person attendance at these forums is not possible due to restrictions imposed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, further information will be provided by the Village to allow remote attendance and participation.

St. Mary’s Cemetery, 105-109 Railroad Avenue, Montgomery has put up a holiday Wishing Tree in the baby section. The tree is thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Sheen whose son is buried in the baby’s section of the cemetery. The tree is located on the main road of the cemetery all the way down on the right. The tree is on the left hand side. You are invited to write your wishes on cards provided that are attached to the tree. Cards and pens are located on a stand next to the tree. Please keep the pen.

On Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 7 p.m. the cards will be burned. Call Bill Palmer at the cemetery 457-4053 of you have questions.

The Walden Humane Society, 2489 Albany Post Road, Walden will hold their first indoor yard sale of 2021 on Saturday, January 2, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Face masks are required. All proceeds benefit the care of the animals at the shelter. For information call the shelter at 778-5115. Please continue the season of giving. Please bring a donation of food or cleaning supplies. Thank you for your support.

The library will close at 3 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and remain closed on New Year’s Day. We will reopen on Saturday, January 2, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The Library Board and the Library Staff wish all of our patrons a safe and healthy New Year. Here’s to a better 2021.
