At the Montgomery Industrial Development Agency (IDA) meeting on Nov. 12, the board approved a 15 year PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) giving the developer, Bluewater Industrial Partners, a $21.5 million tax abatement.

This tax exemption is for Project Sailfish, a 1-million-square-foot, $75 million warehouse in the Town of Montgomery. The warehouse would be used as an Amazon distribution center. It would be located near Interstate I-84 and the intersection of New York State Route 17K and 747.

If the warehouse is built, at least 800 jobs will be created. According to Town of Montgomery IDA documents, 775 of these jobs will be unskilled hourly employees with wages starting at $31,200 a year plus benefits. 25 will be salaried professional or managerial positions starting at $600,000 a year.

At the meeting on Nov. 12, the IDA board also considered a State Environmental Quality Review resolution for the project submitted by the applicant. The board also considered an approving resolution for the financial resistance presented by the applicant. Both resolutions were approved by the IDA board.
