Town of Montgomery Police Tuesday reported the arrest of a woman for felony Driving While Intoxicated.

Heather J. Bechtel, 29, was arrested and charged with 4 Felony counts of Aggravated DWI under Leandra’s Law.

The arrest stemmed from an investigation where Heather Bechtel was alleged to have driven to the Town of Montgomery court for a previous DWI arrest while having children in the vehicle. In addition, she was also charged with 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Leandra’s Law (Child Passenger Protection Act) is a New York State law making it an automatic felony on the first offense to drive drunk with a person age 15 or younger inside the vehicle, and setting the blood alcohol content, or BAC, at 0.08. The bill was unanimously passed by the New York State Assembly and the New York State Senate and then signed into law by Gov. David Paterson on November 18, 2009.

Bechtel was released on her own recognizance to a family member.
