Town asks for extension of tax deadline

Posted

The Town of Newburgh is asking the County of Orange to extend the property tax deadline, in light of the closures and delays caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.

“In light of Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order of last week regarding non-essential personnel and our municipal focus from the response to the COVID-19 virus health crisis, the Town of Newburgh Receiver of Taxes Office is not staffed until at least April 15,”aid Supervisor Gil Piaquadio in a letter to Karin Hablow, Orange County Commissioner of Finance. “Give the inability of our taxpayers to pay their property taxes at the receiver’s window at Town Hall and the lack of staffing in the receiver’s office to process payments both in person and by mail, an extension is logical.”
