Three local bowlers to compete for state titles

Posted

There won’t be any local teams going to the New York Public High School Athletic Association bowling championships next month, but that doesn’t mean the bowlers will be staying home.

Highland’s Olivia Casabura and Marlboro’s Emily Tarsio, Steviemarie Amato and Olivia Cherubini will go to the state meet as part of the Section 9 girls’ composite team, along with two Newburgh bowlers: Katie Bell and Gianna Alisandrella. Highland’s Gavin Landry will go to states as part of the boys’ team.

Saugerties won both the boys’ and girls’ Division II championships on February 13 at Patel’s Kingston Lanes. The boys’ team defeated Highland and the girls’ team defeated Marlboro.

Landry led the Huskies, who finished with a total six-game pin count of 5,184, with a six-game series of 1,286. He rolled at least a 208 in all six games with a high score of 227.

Kieran Surprise rolled a six-game series of 1,044 and a high game of 219. Andrew Lamark had a six-game series of 1,018 with a high game of 224.

Patrick Tarsio led Marlboro bowlers with a six-game series of 1,200 with high games of 257 and 220. Logan Winders rolled a 949 six-game series with a high game of 177.

Emily Tarsio led the Marlboro girls with a six-game series of 1,167 with high games of 223, 215 and 203. Cherubini rolled a 902 six-game series with high games of 159, 158 and 156, all in the afternoon. Amato had a six-game series of 833 with a 168 high game.

Casabura didn’t compete at sectionals because she was already qualified for the state meet.

Both composite teams will bowl the second say of the NYSPHSAA tournament – March 11 – at Strike N’ Spare Lanes in Syracuse. The girls will bowl at 8 a.m. and the boys will bowl at 2 p.m.
