After nearly a decade of contributing to the New Windsor Community Column, today marks my final installment as I transition from my role as Recreation Director of the Town of New Windsor to assume the position of Superintendent of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Clarkstown in Rockland County. With this shift, my involvement in the New Windsor community will naturally come to a close, including this column.

Over the past 18 years, I have had the privilege of serving as the Recreation Director, starting when I was a young, energetic 30-year-old. My journey here began after leaving a five-year tenure as the General Manager and Director of Instruction at a Baseball and Softball Training Center. However, multiple shoulder surgeries prompted a career shift, leading me to seize the opportunity presented by an open Recreation Director position in New Windsor.

Upon submitting my resume, I persistently pursued the chance to showcase my qualifications, eventually securing an interview with Town Supervisor George Green and Mike Babcock, then head of the Building Department and the Buildings and Grounds Department. Through a comprehensive presentation highlighting our vision for the Recreation Department, I earned a second interview with the Town Board, ultimately securing the position on May 17, 2006.

These past 18 years have been nothing short of extraordinary as we’ve cultivated a Recreation Department boasting programs and events that reflect the vibrancy of New Windsor. Throughout my tenure, I’ve had the privilege of working under the leadership of three Town Supervisors — the late George Green, George Meyers, and Steve Bedetti — all of whom demonstrated unwavering support for Parks and Recreation, understanding its significance within our community.

To my colleagues, both past and present, I extend my deepest gratitude. Your dedication and hard work have been instrumental in the success of our programs and events. Together, we’ve overcome countless challenges, consistently delivering exceptional experiences for the residents of New Windsor. I leave knowing that the Town of New Windsor is in capable hands, thanks to the collective efforts of its outstanding employees.

I also wish to express my appreciation to publisher Carl Aiello and the entire team at the Mid Hudson Times for providing me with the platform to share insights and updates with the community through this column over the past decade.

And to the residents of New Windsor, thank you for your unwavering support of our programs and events throughout the years. It’s been a privilege to witness the growth of countless individuals, from preschoolers to teenagers, as they’ve engaged with our Recreation Department and ventured into successful adulthood. Your support has been invaluable, and I will always cherish the relationships forged during my time here.

As I embark on this new chapter, I carry with me fond memories and a profound appreciation for the New Windsor community. May God bless each and every one of you.

Lastly, I’d like to extend birthday wishes to Chris Regan and Justin Quinn on May 2, Brendan Flynn on May 4, and Sean Kelly on May 8. Happy birthday to all celebrating this week!
