Senator James Skoufis (D-Woodbury) presented Colin Jarvis, Newburgh Ministry’s Executive Director, with the State Senate’s Commendation Award. The Commendation Award is one of the highest honors for citizens in the state and identifies exceptional individuals who have shown dedication and made lasting contributions to their community.

“I was honored to give my first Senate Commendation Award to Colin Jarvis,” said Skoufis. “Mr. Jarvis’ exceptional efforts developing workforce as well as anti-poverty programming for disenfranchised youth and adults continues to make a lasting impact on Newburgh. I thank him for his selfless dedication to our community’s disadvantaged families and look forward to all that’s to come from the work he continues to do in our region.”

Jarvis said, “Some of my proudest work has been accomplished in the bustling city of Newburgh. I have been and always will be committed to helping this community however I can. It was an honor to accept this award from Senator Skoufis and I thank him for being a strong advocate for the City of Newburgh.”

Jarvis has worked as the Newburgh Ministry’s Executive Director for the past six years. The Newburgh Ministry works to prevent homelessness in the Hudson Valley by providing shelter and supplies, as well as coaching individuals on advocating for themselves. Jarvis has worked in social services since the early 1990s.
