Newburgh man drowns in the Hudson

The body of a Newburgh man was recovered from the Hudson River early Thursday after an overnight search.

Theman was identifiedasCityof Newburgh residentMauricePryce, 35. According to witnesses, Pryce had fallen off a dock into the river, near BluePointerestaurant on Wednesday at approximately 10 p..m.

The CityofNewburghFireDepartmentrespondedtothescene andPDandFD personnelcheckedalongtheshore where the man was seen going into the water.Several other agencies responded to assist,including several marine units and dive teams.The Coast Guard was also on scene assisting with sonarsweeps of the area.At approximately 2 a.m. the dive teams called off their search due to safety concerns.

The searches resumed shortly after daybreak and concluded at approximately 9:35 a.m. when his body was located near the docks where he had fallen in the water.

“We are praying for the family,” said Newburgh Mayor Torrance Harvey., who issued a statement thanking all of the responders, including the State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Dept., Coast Guard and firefighters from neighboring towns. He added that Councilman Omari Shakur had responded to the family Thursday morning.
