Melvyn Frumes was the second of four children raised by Norman and Ida Frumes born May 25, 1939, including older half brother Lauren, and younger siblings Larry and Reva. The family ranged from coast to coast and Canada as well.

Mel, as his friends and family called him, grew into a handsome man with not a few comparisons to a strapping Tom Selleck. After attending Whittier college and getting his law degree, he would practice law until he retired, remaining a fixture for the best days of the Frumes family in Southern California. A beloved uncle who would show up to family events in his fancy Lexus and among the first to have a car-phone, who became an avid Vegas gambler (and who luckily escaped that chapter with all ten fingers and all ten toes), Mel embraced the role of perpetual bachelor, with many lovely girlfriends over the years, never to settle down or have kids.  His roommate was Charlie , a dachshund mix, quiet, contemplative and well mannered.

Mel's poetry was legendary amongst his friends and family for his commitment to the simple yet unmetered rhyme. It wasn't a Mel poem unless it had a few lines where he was really reaching. He was ornery, cantankerous, awkward, full of pride and your average amount of lament later in life, and he was very endearing and kind and poetic.

Funeral services will be private.
