Josh Johnson qualified for the New York State championship meet in his second event on Wednesday in the Marlboro boys’ swimming team’s 93-67 loss to Newburgh at Newburgh Free Academy’s Main Campus.

Johnson’s winning time was 48.74 in the 100-yard freestyle, coming in just under the state qualifying time of 48.76. The state meet is scheduled for March 3 and 4 at Ithaca College. Johnson had previously qualified for states in the 100-yard butterfly on December 1.

Johnson won two events for the Dukes, winning the 100-yard individual medley and the 100-yard freestyle. Ayden Baxter (200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle) also won two events for the Dukes. Christopher Felker (100-yard backstroke) and Jordan Johnson (100-yard breaststroke) also had wins for the Dukes.

The Dukes won the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Marlboro was also beaten by Red Hook earlier in the week, 92-62.
