Marlboro finishes 15th in Section 9 swimming

The Marlboro girls’ swimming team placed 15th at the Section 9 swimming and diving championships on Saturday afternoon at Valley Central High School.

The Highland Huskies, which shadowed the Dukes throughout the season, did not qualify any swimmers for sections, while the Pine Bush Bushmen won the championship with 327 points.

Loretta Santora was the top finisher for the Dukes when she qualified for the finals in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke.

She placed sixth in the backstroke with a 1:03.13 and was seventh with a time of 1:01.84.

Emersyn Lazar was 10th in the 500-yard freestyle.

Lazar and Santora teamed with Reese Shuta and Kathryn Greiner to finish 10th in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Greiner finished was 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke and 11th in the 200-yard individual medley. Sofia Santora was 15th.
Taylor Chiaramonte just missed the cut for the diving semifinals on Friday when she finished the six-dive portion with 227.05 points.

The Dukes had qualified for the championship heat in the 200-yard medley relay, but their second swimmer had an early takeoff and was disqualified.
