The Marlboro and Highland boys’ and girls’ bowling teams split Thursday’s matchup at Pat Tarsio Lanes in Newburgh with the Huskies winning the boys’ match, 4-1, and the Dukes taking the girls’ match 5-0.

Gavin Landry led the Huskies with a 645 series, which included a 256 high game. He also rolled a 213. Andrew Lamark also had a 481 series and Matthew Stueber rolled a 445.

The Iron Dukes won the first of three games by 81 pins. The Huskies took the second game by 85 pins to tie things up, and then won the third game, and the total wood to win the match, 4-1.

Patrick Tarsio led the Iron Dukes with a 518 series.
Marlboro’s Emily Tarsio led the Dukes to win in the girls’ match against an undermanned Huskies team, which only had two players. Tarsio rolled a 463 series, and Paige Brooks posted a 420 series.

The Huskies were missing their top female bowler, Olivia Casabura.

Highland’s girls’ team was gutted by graduation last year and is only left with three bowlers. Izzy Gaylor, who qualified for the state meet last year with Casabura, graduated, and it’s going to be difficult to compete in dual meets with only three bowlers.

Landry returns to lead the boys’ team after qualifying for sectionals last year with a 188 average. Senior Jason DeWitt is bowling for the first time this season.

Highland coach Peter Forman said all the team members are focused on improving their scores from last year.

“Our boys team has made improvements, but we are still a young team,” Forman said. “Overall, it should be a fun season, and everyone is committed to doing their best and looking to get better.”

The Dukes, who are in their second season as a program, enter their first under coach Joey Redendo. They return key bowlers in Emily Tarsio, Patrick Tarsio, Logan Landis and Paige Brooks.
Newcomers include Chloe Decker and Chris Moulds.

The girls’ team have won both their matches, beating Newburgh several days earlier.

“We are young, but hardworking and will see continued improvement throughout the year,” Redendo said.
