How to survive the holidays with a hearing loss
The Hearing Loss Group at the Gardiner Library will meet Thursday December 12 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. This month’s topic is: How to Survive Holiday Gatherings with a Hearing Loss – Strategies for Enjoying the Crowd. Jeanine Byrnes will also teach how to sign (ASL) “Jingle Bells”. Pizza and drinks will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own holiday cookies to share.
The goal is to provide information and support to those who have or live with someone who has hearing loss. Hearing loss can be an isolating condition. These meetings provide strategies for maintaining and improving the quality of life for hard of hearing people in our area.
The group meets in the library community room, 133 Farmer’s Turnpike in Gardiner.

Gardiner Library presents Slow Jam
The Gardiner Library will once again offer Slow Jam on Sunday December 15 from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m. All musicians and acoustic instruments are welcome.

The Slow Jam allows those new to playing an acoustic instrument to practice with some friendly, local musicians. Musicians gather to play Old Time, folk songs, bluegrass, Western and other homespun-type songs. Participants play at a slower pace, so everyone is given the chance to learn the songs. There’s no audience and no pressure. The Slow Jam takes place on the third Sunday of every month.
The library is located at 133 Farmer’s Turnpike in Gardiner.

Yoga Nidra at Gardiner Library
The Gardiner Library hosts a Yoga Nidra class with Wendy Blair on Sunday December 15 from 12 to 1 p.m. These Community Rest Circles occur monthly on the third Sunday and ask for a suggested donation of $10 for the library.
Yoga Nidra is a form of guided meditation that uses a combination of intention-setting, guided body scan, breath work and imagery as gateways to reducing mental, emotional and physical tensions. Practiced consistently over time, YN provides a way to reduce stress and anxiety, and increase a sense of calm and emotional wellbeing. There will be a brief check-in to start, followed by intention-setting for the experience (that will be woven into the meditation), a 30-45 minute guided mediation, and will conclude with a short period for feedback.

Wendy Blair, LCSW-R is a holistic psychotherapist, accredited certified Emotional Freedom Technique/EFT “tapping” practitioner, and a Daring To Rest Yoga Nidra Facilitator. For questions, contact Wendy at wblair@wendyfblair.com.
All classes take place in the library community room. The next class will take place on Sunday January 19. The community room is equipped with T-coil technology for those with compatible hearing aids and cochlear implants.
For directions or further information call 255-1255 or visit gardinerlibrary.org or the library’s Facebook page.
