The Newburgh Enlarged City School District has found its new athletic director.

The Board of Education on January 24 approved the appointment of Christian G. Hodge, the athletic director at the Pelham school district by a 7-1 vote. School Board member Jerry R. Lamar was the only vote against the human resources agenda.

Hodge will serve a four-year probationary term, originally effective March 27-2023-March 26, 2027. He will be paid a prorated annual salary of $158,803. He holds a school district leader certification.

Hodge will replace interim athletic director Ron Jackson, who has been serving since the January 15 resignation of former athletic director Howard Harrison.

Harrison is now the athletic director at the Monroe-Woodbury School District since the end of January.

Hodge resigned from Pelham on February 10.
Before Pelham, he was the Assistant Superintendent for Athletics, Physical Education, Health, Wellness and Security at the Poughkeepsie City School District. He also has experience overseeing physical education and athletics departments in Syracuse, Gates Chili and Section 1 athletics.

He also was a principal and assistant principal in the Calvert County School District in Maryland.
He earned his bachelor degree in secondary social studies from Cortland State University and received a master’s degree in school administration and supervision from Bowie State University and a Certificate of Advanced Study from Niagara University.
