The Ulster BOCES Career & Technical Center is hosting a student/parent information night on Thursday, February 20 at the Ulster BOCES campus on Route 9W in Port Ewen. Two sessions will be offered starting at 5:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. The snow date for this event is Tuesday, February 25.

Prospective students and their parents are encouraged to attend and tour the facility, see the classrooms, and explore the work labs related to their student’s professional areas of interest. Courses for more than two-dozen fields of study are available in areas ranging from information technology, healthcare, criminal justice, automotive, manufacturing technology, culinary, aviation, and welding. A new animal science program will also be offered in September.

Students enrolled in these programs graduate college- and career-ready, thanks to industry-experienced instructors utilizing hands-on training with state-of-the-art technology and equipment. Several programs include the opportunity to earn college credits while in high school. According to the U.S. Department of Education, 78% of students who concentrated on CTE in high school enroll in postsecondary education full-time after graduating.

Guests can also explore the Pre-University/New Visions Career Exploration programs available to high school seniors. Guidance counselors and teachers will be available and parents can and learn about the specific courses available for the career areas of Advanced Robotics & Engineering, Music & Audio Engineering, Education, and Health. They can also learn about the admissions process for these programs.

Pre-University/New Visions Career Exploration programs provide high school seniors with mentoring experiences from local professionals and the opportunity to gain career exploration and knowledge. These rigorous programs include honors-level curricula in English, Participation in Government, and Economics, which correlate to the careers being explored.

Students enrolled in these programs, who can still take classes at their home school and participate in after-school sports or extracurricular activities, can also save money by earning 9-12 college credits while still in high school.

If you cannot make the information session but are still interested in learning about these programs, call (845) 331-6680 and speak with our Guidance staff or visit www.ulsterboces.org.
