Time to set the record straight

Over the past few weeks, Lloyd Councilman Joe Mazzetti has taken to writing letters to the editor. Normally, I would not respond, but since much of what he writes is misinformation, I felt compelled to respond to his accusations and other rhetoric. In his letter on October 4, 2023, Mr. Mazzetti says others on the Board can’t defend our record, and we resort to embarrassing behavior. Personally, I am very proud of my record since taking office in January of 2022. During my leadership as Supervisor we have accomplished numerous tangible projects and events that will benefit our residents. I have communicated to residents frequently, including sending out quarterly reports on our Town Website and on our Social Media pages. I also send out weekly updates on large projects as necessary.

In Joe’s letter on October 4, 2023, he accused me of changing the hiring practices; that is a false statement. When hiring for the part-time position he is referring to, we followed the written procedure. As I mentioned to Councilman Mazzetti in the meeting, if he wanted to be more involved, he knew we were hiring for this position and he or any other board member could have taken the initiative to be involved in the process, but instead he sat back and waited until a public meeting to bring up incorrect facts and accusatory statements.

The second accusation Councilman Mazzetti makes is that I alone determined when and how the intersection of Toc/Tillson/Vineyard Avenue was closed for construction. Again, this statement is incorrect. Vineyard Avenue (Rt 44/55) is a state highway, and the only people who can close the road is the NYS DOT, and the contractors must follow the DOT process and protocol for closing a state road. I would expect that all town board members understand that NYS DOT controls their roads and highways. This subject was also discussed in every Town Board Regular meeting and every Town Board Workshop meeting in March, April and May and is in the minutes, so Councilman Mazzetti saying it was solely the Supervisor’s decision is once again false information. We have also communicated regularly on progress with the affected residents in the area and on the town’s website and social media pages.

Councilman Mazzetti continues about the behavior of elected officials and transparency issues, which is unfounded. In my previous career I worked frequently with “problem-solving techniques.” One technique I learned when solving issues is to look for the “common denominator.” If you look at Councilman Mazzetti’s time on the Town Board from January 2016 to present, you will find he has had issues with every supervisor and multiple other Town Board members. They can’t all be the problem, the common denominator is Councilman Mazzetti. It is sad that Councilman Mazzetti is now playing the victim card for his campaign strategy. It is easy to stay on the sidelines and criticize others when you do not step up and do things that you can be accountable for. This is an election year, so of course if you have no tangible projects or results to speak of, you attack others to get the focus off of your only paltry record.

I am very proud of my record and I will continue to serve ALL residents of the Town of Lloyd regardless of party affiliation or background, and I believe my record supports that. We are always willing to discuss topics with any residents. I look forward to winning re-election and continuing the momentum we have achieved in my first term.
