Supervisor speaks on proposed warehouse

Supervisor Dean DePew said the current proposal of a 451,000 sq/ft warehouse, which is equivalent to 10 acres, is before the Planning Board, “and they are doing their due diligence and research and it is not with the Town Board at this time.”

“There are a lot of folks that can’t wait for it to come and there are folks that don’t ever want it to come,” he said. “You get that in every community; it’s an 800 pound gorilla in the middle of the room and I reserve my opinion on it at this time.”

The proposed site is on Route 55, past the Modena Fire House, and is directly across from Mike’s Hot House, a greenhouse business.

“I have to imagine that there is a plethora of studies and investigations to do and I have all he confidence in the world with the [town] boards that they are going to hold that to task and make sure they cross their T’s and dot their I’s,” he said.

DePew stressed that this proposed project is in a very preliminary stage.

“No permits have been drawn and I’ve heard that some neighboring towns are not too happy with it,” he said, adding that, “I am in favor of smart growth, not overgrowth and not rushing to overbuild.”
