Milton Library presents Chinese acrobatics

Posted

Traditional Chinese Acrobatics with Li Liu on Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m. Sponsored by the Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library, Li Liu’s performance takes place at a close-by special venue: The Historic Milton Train Station. The library is on the corner of Main Street and Dock Road in Milton. Go down Dock Road to the Hudson River (just a quick jaunt east), to find the beautifully restored station.
In 2020, the Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library hosts three programs emphasizing cultural and folk traditions in performance.
Li Liu gives a one-woman performance, including: hand balancing, plate spinning, ribbon dancing, Chinese yo-yos and foot juggling. Li explains some of the rituals of Chinese celebrations, teaches audience members some basic Chinese phrases, and encourages them to think about what it might have been like to grow up in a different time and place.
These dates have now been confirmed for the Mini-Series:
- Traditional Chinese Acrobatics with Li Liu, March 1.
- African Drum and Dance Ensemble Sankofa, March 29.
- Flamenco Dance Concert with Rebeca Tomás, April 26.
Free and open to the public, reservations are needed. Call the Milton Library at (845) 795-2200.

Marlboro School District Acknowledgments & Events
Students in Monica Taddeo’s Grade 4 class at Marlboro Elementary School traveled to “Legoland” recently! During this fun and educational theme day, students synthesized information from multiple texts, built on background knowledge, engineered Lego marble mazes, and tackled their first essay on their Chromebooks. Great job!
Kindergarten Registration for the 2020-2021 school year will be held on March 10, 11, and 12. Children must be five years old by December 1, 2020. Registration will take place at the Marlboro Central School District Central Office, located at 21 Milton Turnpike in Milton. No appointments are necessary.

Flourless Chocolate Cake
Makinze Gore
The best part about this flourless cake is that it doesn’t require any flour alternatives. It’s just the perfect cake that happens to have zero flour. Cocoa powder and eggs give it all the lift and structure it needs. It’s the perfect thing to bake for your Valentine Day!

INGREDIENTS FOR THE CAKE
Cooking spray, for pan
1 tsp. instant espresso powder
1/4 c. hot water
1 c. sugar
4 large eggs
3/4 c. unsweetened cocoa powder (preferably Dutch process)
6 oz. bittersweet chocolate, roughly chopped
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter, cut into large chunks

FOR THE GANACHE
1/2 c. heavy cream
1 c. semisweet chocolate chips
Raspberries, for serving

DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 350° and grease an 8” springform pan with cooking spray.
2. Make cake: Place a small saucepan filled halfway with water over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Place bittersweet chocolate and butter in a heatproof bowl and set over the simmering pot. Stir until chocolate and butter are completely melted. Turn off heat and remove bowl from saucepan.
3. Dissolve espresso powder in hot water. Add sugar and espresso to melted chocolate and whisk until completely combined then add eggs and whisk to combine. Stir in cocoa powder.
4. Pour batter into prepared springform pan and bake until just set in the middle and a thin crust forms, about 35 minutes.
5. Let cake cool for 15 minutes, then remove sides of springform pan. Let cake cool completely.
6. Meanwhile, make ganache: Place heavy cream in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer. Place chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl then pour hot cream over chocolate chips. Let sit 1 minute, then whisk to combine.
7. Pour ganache over cake and smooth with an offset spatula. Place in refrigerator until set, 10 minutes.
8. Serve with raspberries.
