Learn all abut the covered bridges of Ulster County

Posted

On Sunday, September 22, at 2 p.m., the Marlborough Historical Society will welcome Daniel Snavely to the Milton Train Station, where he will give a presentation on his research on the seven covered bridges that are located within the lower Catskill Mountains.
Dan was born in Illinois, lived in Colorado for 10 years, studied in Chicago, and went on to enjoy a long career working for IBM in Dutchess County. Since his retirement in 2018, Dan has devoted his time to tutoring first and second graders in reading, volunteering for the Time and the Valleys Museum in Grahamsville, working on the implementation of an Augmented Reality Sandbox, and continuing to photograph and study the covered bridges of Ulster and Sullivan Counties.
Admission to this event is free and all are welcome.
The historic Milton Train Station was built in 1883 and is located at 41 Dock Road, Milton, NY, next to the Milton Landing Park on the Hudson River. The train station was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Cities of Beauty: Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice, And Barcelona
Come to the Marlboro Library on Thursday, September 26 at 7 pm to travel the globe without ever leaving your seat! Great cities of Europe, such as Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice, and Barcelona, are famous for their association with beauty and romance. Kissing your lover under the Eiffel Tower in Paris; floating in a gondola on the Grand Canal of Venice; strolling by the beautiful Trevi Fountain in Rome at night; viewing the spectacular art and architecture of Barcelona and Florence, all stir the senses.

Barry Kass, photographer and Professor emeritus of Anthropology and Sociology, will take us on a photographic tour of these wonderful cities of Europe. This is a great wrap up to our adult summer reading theme “a Universe of Stories.”
Professor emeritus Barry Kass, a noted educator residing in the Hudson Valley, has taught college courses in Anthropology, Archeology, Human Geography, and Sociology at SUNY Orange in Middletown, NY, for over 45 years. He has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Central and South America, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and China, and has led many overseas travel-learn groups for the college. He is also an experienced photographer, and has had many of his photos from exotic locales published in textbooks and articles in Anthropology and other fields. Prof. Kass’ photos have been exhibited in the offices of the American Anthropological Association in Arlington, Virginia, as well as in the Museum of Civilization in Quebec, and the Museum of Natural History in Paris.
