Highland Mini Husky Baseball Camp

Highland High School Varsity Baseball Coach John Manganiello and Assistant Coach Rizzo along with their Varsity Baseball Players held a free three-day camp for Highland Kids aged 9-12.
The attendees were excited to practice skills, learn new techniques and have a great time with members of HHS Varsity team. The varsity players were willing to get dirty with the younger players, and show them what they’ve learned over the years.
Graycin Howard, entering 5th grade, said “I liked being able to be back at the field (in the off season) and being around the bigger players. They were nice and had some tips to help me run the bases. I liked sliding into second head first too!” Graycin’s older brother, Logan entering 6th grade, shared his thoughts too. “I learned some pitching tips and liked the new base running ideas. The scrimmage was fun with everyone playing together and having fun”.
Both boys excitedly added “We liked the pizza at the end” because Coach Manganiello, affectionately called Coach Mango, bought pizza and wings for the participants at the end of the last day. When talking to Coach Mango, he was so happy with the turnout of kids wanting to participate and just how smoothly the whole process went. He too, said “It was a lot of fun!”. Besides the fun it was evident the kids learned a lot and hopefully made some new bonds with older students to look up to in our community!

Highland Community Backpack Program

The Highland Community Backpack Program seeks weekly donations to keep the program running throughout the school year. This program is staffed by community volunteers and sponsored by The First United Methodist Church of Highland (57 Vineyard Ave).

Each backpack contains 2 breakfast items, 3 entrees, juice boxes, a loaf of bread, canned vegetables and snacks. Get involved by donating, running a food drive and/or helping stuff the bags!
