Traffic stop leads to heroin bust

The Town of New Windsor Police Department is reporting the arrest of a 49-year-old New Windsor resident on August 29, for the possession of a large quantity of heroin.

The resident, who was operating a motor vehicle, was stopped on a town roadway for a Vehicle and Traffic Law violation. During the traffic stop, officers discovered the driver of the vehicle was in possession of approximately 500 bags of heroin on his person. A subsequent investigation by New Windsor Detectives led to the execution of a Search Warrant of the driver’s New Windsor home, where additional heroin and drug packaging material were located.

The driver of the vehicle – Bobby D. Simmons was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th (C-Felony) and arraigned by New Windsor Town Justice George Meyers. Simmons has two prior Felony convictions and was remanded to the Orange County Jail, pending a future appearance in court.
