Newburgh man charged in fatal stabbing

Man dies in Friday morning incident

On Friday, September 11th 2020, at approximately 10 a.m., a City of Newburgh detective was driving his assigned detective vehicle in the area of Broadway & Robinson Ave (9W) when he observed a black male stabbing a Hispanic male. The detective radioed this information to police headquarters.

The detective exited his vehicle, drew his service firearm, while simultaneously giving verbal commands to the black male to drop the knife. The black male began to walk towards the Detective and after repeated verbal commands eventually dropped the knife and was taken into custody by responding officers.

The Hispanic male, identified as City of Newburgh resident Felix Alduen-Durand, age 54, had been stabbed several times in the torso. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later in the afternoon succumb to the injuries sustained during this incident. The black male was identified as City of Newburgh resident Arthur Thomas, age 42. He was transported to police headquarters where he was later charged with Murder in the 2nd degree.
