Mount Nursing professor receives DAISY Nurse Faculty Award

Posted

Mount Saint Mary College recently presented the DAISY Foundation Nurse Faculty Award to Christine Berté, assistant professor of Nursing, director of the graduate Nursing program, and chairperson of the college’s School of Nursing.

This is the first year the Mount has presented the award. Berté was nominated by her fellow Nursing faculty members and selected by the Diseases Attacking the Immune System Foundation (DAISY) committee as the recipient. The foundation was formed in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, after they witnessed the utmost care and compassion Barnes received at the hands of his nurses before passing from Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura.

Berté was nominated because of her guidance and phenomenal listening skills. Mount Nursing faculty noted that she tackles many issues with a sense of fairness, but also a sense of humor. She consistently finds time for faculty, students, and administrative staff, they added.

Berté was presented the award during the School of Nursing’s pinning celebration for the college’s Nursing Class of 2019 by Susan LaRocco, Dean of the School of Nursing. The next day, the college graduated more than 130 Nursing students at the 56th Annual Commencement on May 18.
