Meals on Wheels to suspend delivery of hot lunches

Posted

The coronavirus outbreak has affected the daily delivery of Newburgh's meals program.

Effective Monday, March 30, Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh will not be delivering daily meals to its approximately 80 recipients. Instead, the residents will receive a week's worth of frozen meals, along with bags of non-perishable foods. The change was announced in a letter from Executive Director Robin Bello that was sent out with Friday's meals.

"We apologize for the change in meals, " Bello wrote, "however we must protect everyone’s health - yours and our dedicated volunteers who deliver your meals."

The meals will be distributed in aluminum trays and must be heated in an oven  or removed from the trays and placed in a microwavable dish to reheat.
