City police report increase in BB gun incidents

The City of Newburgh is experiencing a significant increase in BB-Gun incidents and related calls for service. On several occasions callers were reporting individuals who were pointing what they believed to be BB-Guns at motor vehicles in the road way. Several of these individuals were believed to be juveniles and have actually fired at moving motor vehicles.

The City of Newburgh Police Department would like to discourage adults from purchasing these BB-Guns for juveniles and any use within the City of Newburgh. BB-Guns and similar objects are restricted by the City of Newburgh’s City Code 169-1 stating, “(A) No person shall use or discharge any firearm, slingshot, air rifle, BB gun or pellet gun within the limits of the City of Newburgh otherwise than in self-defense, the discharge of official duty or to prevent injury or damage to persons or domestic animals.

(B) No persons shall carry or transport any firearm, slingshot, air rifle, BB gun or pellet gun within the limits of the City of Newburgh with the intent to use the same for any unlawful purpose.”
