The City of Newburgh has a budget crisis; 39% tax increase and layoffs of police, fire and DPW. It is a crisis City Council has to deal with yet 6 of its 7 members are in their first term of office. As Laurel might say to Hardy, “how did we get into this mess?”

The current City Manager stated this financial crisis started 3 years ago with budgets by the previous City Manager. Lack of accuracy or transparency in those budgets made them, in effective, fiction. The result is 28,000 Newburgh residents are screwed with higher taxes and reduced City Services in 2020.
